Being aware of yours is an absolute must if you are looking to extract the best results from your practice sessions. It&#8217;s probable accurate to say that most are not in touch with this powerful mind\/body shift.<\/p>\n<p>As you are engaged in your practice session, take a moment to interrupt your thought process by observing what your body is doing. If someone else was looking at you, what would be or she see if be able to detect?<\/p>\n<p>Are your eyebrows tight? Are your eyes open in the same manner they would be if you saw a ghost? Is your mouth frozen open? Is your neck tight? Are your shoulders raised? Observe the rest of your body as well.<\/p>\n<h2>Breathe!<\/h2>\n<p>How about your breathing? Is it regular or is it interrupted by tiny gasps? Are you breathing fluently in a natural relaxed way?<\/p>\n<p>As you make these observations and you realize there is a any tightness, tension, or irregular breathing, RELAX. Take some deep breaths as you smile. Think of something humorous. Reduce your sense of &#8220;seriousness&#8221; with what is going on.<\/p>\n<p>Your mind and body work together. When your thought process is tense, your body follows. In turn, as your body becomes tense, your thoughts and emotions tense up proportionately.<\/p>\n<p>You can change all this for the better with making self observation a habit. Make it a regular part of your practice routine.<\/p>\n<h2>Angry With A Fly?<\/h2>\n<p>There is a brief example I have often presented to my students on this topic: consider a person who has a fly swatter in his or her hand while gearing up to sway a fly on the wall. Perhaps you can recall the bodily intent that occurs just before that fly is about to become a victim. Thoughts of anger or even rage lead to that person tightening up and finally swinging that thing toward the fly as if it was a gorilla. Maybe even you have been involved in such a feat?<\/p>\n<p>Now, consider the alternative: the fly is seen on the wall. The person simply accepts that his or her environment would benefit without the fly. He\/she casually picks up the swatter and playfully and lightly &#8211; maybe even with a smile &#8211; makes history of the fly.<\/p>\n<p>Sidebar: the latter method generally proves to be more successful at being rid of that fly. Surely, you can approach those piano lesson obstacles in a similar manner.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it&#8217;s a common trait of ours to physiologically tense up when concentrating our efforts on a task. Common but not essential unless you&#8217;re involved with pressing barbells.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just a matter of choice.<\/p>\n<p>This is all very important when it comes to not only being more efficient with your practice routine but enjoying it a while lot more. Remember, how you feel about what you&#8217;re doing has everything to do with the results you get. Furthermore, when you feel right, your natural response will be to be less obsessed with your results because they will come more naturally.<\/p>\n<h2>A Way Of Life<\/h2>\n<p>Paying attention to your physiology on a regular basis is conducive to a more relaxed, more productive, more enjoyable day&#8230; <em>and a happier you.<\/em> This proves to be true with all activities. Put it into practice at those keys and you&#8217;ll be applying it in more areas of your life. This is a perfect example of how your piano practice sessions can even be a vehicle for a more rewarding life.<\/p>\n<p>Hmm&#8230; then doesn&#8217;t it stand to reason that everyone should have a piano or keyboard in their home?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Priceless Observation We&#8217;re talking physiology here.
